President's Message

Dear Members, Industry Partners and Conference Speakers,

The ISNA Executive Board met recently and after much consideration made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 ISNA Annual Conference that was to be held in November 2020.  We arrived at this difficult decision after consulting with our members, industry partners, and the conference venue representatives.   The ongoing health concerns regarding the coronavirus made it impossible for us to move forward with the conference as planned. Protecting the health, safety, and well-being of our members, guests, and industry partners serves as the reason for our decision to cancel the ISNA Annual Conference.

I want to take this time to thank our Professional Development Team, President Elect, Leeanne Koeneman, and our Executive Director, Sheri Shipp, who have worked tirelessly to organize the education sessions, line up keynote speakers, and plan events.  Luckily, Gerry Brooks, who was to be the keynote speaker on Friday has agreed to attend our 2021 conference scheduled for October 27-29 in Fort Wayne!  The other talented speakers and presenters that were lined up will be kept informed of our upcoming events so that they will have the opportunity to share their knowledge with our members at some point in the future.  The ISNA Executive Committee and Professional Development team  will be reviewing the current Professional Development calendar and will make adjustments as necessary. This updated calendar will be shared with members no later than October 1st.

We, as always, remain committed to providing our members with quality professional development.  We will take this time to prepare for our first School Nutrition and Industry Summit (previously known as Spring Seminar) coming in June 2021.  We are excited to host this event and hope that the timing will allow more of our members to attend.  The event will offer breakout education sessions and dynamic speakers.  Industry Exhibits will allow our members to see new products and reconnect with our valued Industry Partners.  There will be time to network with friends and peers and to discuss the most challenging year most of us have ever experienced  in school nutrition.  This is history in the making!

The ISNA Executive Board and I thank you for your patience and grace during this difficult time and look forward to seeing you all again!

Dee Orick
